Bird Behavioral Issues

Who do you contact when your bird becomes hormonal and decides to scream until you can’t take it anymore?  Who do you contact when your bird has become so aggressive that you can’t even place your hand in its cage without it lunging to bite you?  Who do you call when your bird begins plucking and you don’t know what to do about it?

There are as many answers as there are questions.  Each bird must be treated individually and uniquely since there is no one solution to all problems.  There are many bird behaviorists available to those who need help with their bird.  Each has developed their own technique which has worked for them and with which they are most comfortable with.  This doesn’t make one behaviorist better than another.  All it means is that their techniques have been found to be successful in certain cases.  What works for one bird may not necessarily work for another.

We do not endorse one behaviorist over another since each one has demonstrated strengths in different areas.  The techniques are as diverse as the emotional issues affecting the birds.  We strongly recommend that you contact a few behaviorists for advice.  There is nothing wrong with accumulating a variety of ideas no matter how similar or different they may be.  You may even find that a combination of those ideas would suit your bird best.

Those of us at Bird Lovers Only Rescue are here to assist and advise you.  If we are unable to answer certain questions, we will direct you to those who may.
